Epson Immersive Wall

Project Overview

Epson tasked us with revitalizing their existing immersive experience with a strong Japanese theme. The goal was to create a visually striking Projection Mapping installation that combines traditional Japanese architectural elements with Epson’s advanced UV printing technology. The installation was to be prominently displayed as a large-scale 3D representation of Japan, aiming to immerse visitors in iconic Japanese landscapes.

Key Objectives

  • Highlight Epson’s Technology: Showcase Epson’s UV printing technology by integrating printed rigid substrates into the design.
  • Enhance Visual Impact: Use Projection Mapping to bring Japanese architectural elements to life, creating a dynamic visual experience.
  • Create an Immersive Environment: Develop an installation that offers a captivating virtual journey through Japan, blending physical materials and digital projections.
  • Demonstrate Versatility: Incorporate various Epson post-press techniques to highlight the versatility of their printing capabilities.
  • Creative Concept

We designed a multi-layered Projection Mapping installation that featured a 3D relief sculpture inspired by traditional Japanese architecture. The installation was divided into three distinct layers—background, mid-ground, and foreground—each showcasing different aspects of Epson's printing technology.

    • Layer 1 - Background: The base layer featured a subtle Seigaiha wave pattern, printed using UV ink on vinyl and applied to wood. This layer served as the foundation for the projection mapping, with additional elements like dyed fabrics integrated to demonstrate Epson’s dye sublimation printing.
    • Layer 2 - Mid-ground: This layer highlighted architectural features such as a Kikkou-patterned archway and a stone-textured castle base, both created using Epson’s resin ink printing technology.
    • Layer 3 - Foreground: The frontmost layer brought the installation to life with intricate details, including Geishas' Kimono prints made with dye sublimation on polyester cotton, Tōrō stone lanterns, and a Torii gate. These elements were designed to dynamically interact with the projected content, enhancing the overall immersive experience.
